About Al
An educator who fights for our schools
Al Muratsuchi is the son of immigrants and a first-generation college graduate. He earned his law degree from UCLA and served as a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice.
He went on to teach as an adjunct professor at El Camino Community College as a member of AFT Local 1388 and served as a trustee on the Torrance Unified School Board.
Elected to the State Assembly representing the South Bay and Torrance, Muratsuchi rose to Chair of the Assembly Education Committee. He led the fight for billions in increased funding for our schools, universal preschool and afterschool programs, mental health services, and free school meals. He wrote laws that fight book bans at public libraries, restrict ICE from entering schools, and defend immigrant students and English learners.
Now he's running for Superintendent of Public Instruction to take that fight statewide — and to take on the Trump administration's attacks on California's public schools.
